This article focuses on the activities of the Patriarchate of Constantinople and its prelates in Ottoman Serbia between 1797 and 1813. The Ottoman government tried to reform the organization of Ottoman Serbia immediately after the Ottoman-Russian-Austrian War of 1787‑1792. I argue that the Patriarchate was central in the re‑organization efforts. It was also an integral part of Ottoman policies to come to terms with the rebels when the revolt broke out in 1804. Focusing on the Patriarchate allow us to better appreciate how Ottoman power functioned, how relations were constructed on the field and how religion, authority and revolt were enmeshed.Cet article est consacré aux activités du Patriarcat de Constantinople et de ses prélats en Serbie ...
