Since the 1990s, the border between Mexico and Guatemala has received increasing attention in the media and the political sphere, which has coincided with the growing international migration from Central America to the United States. This article focuses on the process of naming and designation of this border in online newspapers, especially the mainstream media from Mexico and the United States. It identifies dominant themes through a categorical analysis of a corpus of media articles, and discusses how the use of certain terms, images and analogies shapes social representations and participates in the construction of a reality which is not unrelated to geopolitical interests, in particular on security and control of migratory flows.Alors ...
