L’article examine l’idée d’objet chez Diderot à travers le prisme d’une poétique dans laquelle des éléments de son esthétique et de sa physiologie se combinent avec une théorie générale des machines conçues comme des systèmes organiques. Il s’agit de montrer comment la révision de l’opposition traditionnelle entre mécanisme et organisme permet à Diderot de surmonter la dichotomie entre sujet et objet héritée de la métaphysique classique.
