1.0. Introduction Greek transcriptions in the LXX are an important source of data for reconstructing the sounds of ancient Hebrew. Yet, given that Greek and Latin both possess a single laryngeal consonant /h/, opinions differ on the extent to which transcriptions into their scripts can provide evidence for the realisation of Hebrew gutturals, which include both laryngeals and pharyngeals.
