«Il senso di un io». La lunga infedeltà del Gadda lettore di psicologia e psicoanalisi

This essay focuses on Gadda’s readings dedicated to pre-Freudian psychology, particularly Ribot’s and Fechner’s studies. The main objective of this work is to re-appraise Gadda’s background in order to re-evaluate his theory of the prose, from the Meditazione until the end of the 1940s (the essay “Psicanalisi e letteratura” and the Pasticciaccio). The methodology followed is two-folded: from an analytical point of view, the essay will evaluate the psychological readings of Gadda; from the interpretative point of view, these readings will be evaluated in the light of Gadda’s theory of the prose. The hypothesis of the essay is that Gadda’s literature is based on a mutual relationship between physical and inner world that we can also find in Fechner and in the authors of the Revue Philosophique, as well as in Aristotle, Spinoza, Leibniz, Kant and Freud
