This fact is evidenced by the multitude of classifications used at the moment. In the course of the last 15 years, new antiepileptic drugs appeared on the international market, offering to the neurologists and neuropsychiatrists the opportunity of choosing the optimum antiepileptic therapy in accordance with the clinical aspect of the disease. This article has as objects a brief review of the new antiepileptic drugs, their rational use in mono and polytherapy, as well as some clinical considerations and clinical difficulties implied by the use of the current antiepileptic arsenal.
