Electrical status epilepticus in sleep

Departamentul Pediatrie, Clinica Neuropediatrie USMF „Nicolae Testemiţanu”Is an unusual EEG pattern in children that is characterized by permanent,continuous spikes and waves activity in the brain during sleep.In a recent review of the medical literature, a researcher indicated that the incidence of ESES is 1% of the pediatric patients with epilepsy. It presents a clinical case of the Neurology department IMSP ICŞDOSMC. A 5-yeas old twin-sisters were hospitalized with the diagnosis of Symptomatic Epilepsy with polymorphic seizures and moderate mental retardation. They performed a Video-EEG monitoring that determined the presence of the EEG pattern specific for the ESES syndrome. Status Epileptic Electric din timpul Somnului Lent (ESES) este un patern EEG care include o activitate epileptiformă permanentă, continuă, difuză de vărf-undă lentă în faza somnului lent, care durează luni şi ani de zile, şi care exercita o regresie neurodevelopmentală asupra copilului chiar şi în absenta crizelor epileptice. Într-o analiză recentă a literaturii medicale, s-a stabilit ca incidenţa ESES este de 1% la pacienţii pediatrici cu epilepsie. Prezentăm un caz clinic din secţia neurologie a IMSP IMC. Două surori-gemene cu vârsta 5 ani, care s-au internat cu diagnosticul: Epilepsie simptomatică cu crize polimorfe şi retard neuropsihic moderat. Traseele Video-EEG în timpul somnului lent au înregistrat o activitate specifică electroencefalografică – sindromul ESES
