Att förlösa den inre sångaren : Ett arbete om att maximera sitt konstnärliga uttryck

This bachelor thesis starts with me envisioning myself performing as a vocalist free from inhibitions and asking myself what’s required of me to get there. How can I compose music in a way that both enhances and challenges my artistic epression? I investigate different methods for vocal technique and mental exercises as well as study live performances from a few selected artists for reference. In the primary part of my thesis, I explore how I can connect these aspects in order to compose music of my own and perform it with brilliance. The goal is taking it to the highest artistic level possible. I practice different methods to spark the creative flow, such as using visual moodboards, free improvisation in addition to fixed routines as a tool to compose music. This subsequently results in a concert April 7th with ten musicians on stage where we perform my five original compositions written for this project. The songs involve stories about talking with the snow, feeling free in the water and riding on metaphorical trains. With the ambition to seal the gap between instrument practice, creative visions and concert performance I reflect on the importance of making a connection with the audience through both music and storytelling around the music and how the lack of a physical audience affects the performance on stage. I further reflect on the importance of accepting help from people around you and how the force of singing together can overpower negative emotions.
