La queilitis actínica (CA) es una inflamación crónica que afecta con mayor frecuencia al labio inferior y se considera un trastorno potencialmente maligno que podría convertirse en carcinoma de células escamosas (CCE). La CA es causada por una exposición excesiva a la radiación ultravioleta (UV), principalmente la radiación solar. Los pacientes varones de piel clara, mayores de 50 años, que han trabajado al aire libre o han tenido una exposición prolongada a la luz solar son más susceptibles a desarrollar esta lesión. Sus manifestaciones clínicas son muy variadas; sin embargo, no se relacionan con las alteraciones histopatológicas que se pueden encontrar.
