A Training Plan and Manual for an SAP Migration Project at Airbus Defence and Space

Airbus Defence and Space have been harmonising their active Enterprise Resource Planning systems and as part of this process migrated to a new SAP system for the Finnish and French offices. The objective of this thesis project was to develop a training plan and manual for end users of this new system. These users needed to be trained in advance of the migration in order to guarantee smooth operation of daily tasks. Various sources were analysed to create a theoretical framework of industry best practices. The first method to be used was determining the training needs by establishing the business goals and the tasks that needed to be performed to reach this goal. Then, learning objectives were ascertained based on the training needs. The next step was designing and developing the training materials. When that concluded, the implementation stage of the training was prepared. Finally, it was discussed how to evaluate the effectiveness of the training. This report examines the outcomes of applying the theoretical framework to the business case. To achieve uninterrupted business, trainings in certain areas were required. These areas were a general introduction to the new SAP system, workflows that were new in the system, workflows that were changed compared to the old system, and new tools interfacing with the system. Training materials that had already been prepared were collected, evaluated on their relevancy, and modified. Materials that were not available yet were designed and created. The implementation of the training was prepared to be done through different delivery methods. These comprised of using an e-learning platform, online presentation sessions, and publishing online training materials for self-study purposes on Confluence and intranet pages. Finally, evaluation was outlined by preparing participant satisfaction surveys. The project was deemed successful, as the training materials were ready when needed and the training was implemented on time
