The rapid application of new rice varieties from the Green Revolution (CMX) has brought outstanding achievements to Vietnam in general and the Cuu Long in particular: the rice varieties bred to be shorter time crops, high productivity and quality as Jasmine 85, OM CS 2000, NVD 95-20, OM 4900, OM 4218, OM 2517, ST5... making Vietnam become the second biggest rice exporter in the world. Furthermore, Vietnam has been making a tremendous progess in intensive farming compared to other countries in the region. However, the Green Revolution (CMX)’s disadvantage is positively visible.
