Chronic glucocorticoid (GC) excess (Cushing’s syndrome, pharmacotherapy) causes metabolic and cardiovascular disease. This might be predicted from the known metabolic (dyslipidaemia, insulin resistance/hyperglycaemia) and hypertensive effects of chronically elevated GC levels.
