People with facial disfigurements encounter a number of difficulties: negative reactions from other people, problems in coming to terms with their appearance, and changes to their identity if the disfigurement is not congenital. This study aims to explore the experience of living with an acquired facial disfigurement. We aimed to understand the lived experience and psychological impact in participants dealing with a change to their face. In-depth, semi-structured interviews were conducted with two men and one woman with an acquired facial disfigurement, over the telephone.
