Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a set of technologies that can reduce emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) at source to prevent increased atmospheric concentrations of the gas, which cause climate change. The approach of SCCS is to consider that the UK future ambition on reducing carbon emissions requires a CO2 removal and storage service for industry, heat, transport, and power. That requires infrastructure consisting of pipelines, shipping, and associated gas compression and gas separation facilities. There is a market failure in the UK to provide these facilities commercially.
