The science of female endocrinology is, as yet, a relatively young one, but probably in no other field of medicine has there accumulated in so short a time such a vast and rapidly expanding literature embracing both clinical and experimental aspects of a subject, the true foundations of which were laid barely two decades ago and which, prior to this, had been shrouded by a haze of mystery and empiricism. Evolution has indeed been so rapid that it has been well- r_ighs impossible to digest and assimilate properly the rich diet of fundamental discoveries scattered in many publications and in numerous languages during these years
