1. The coagulation of TH (OH) 4 Sol by electrolytes 2. Studies in ceric oxide Sol and Gel

I. Coagulation of Th( O1i)4 sol (Muller ) with the mixtures of electrolytes KCI+ HCI, KC1 +KNO3, KCl K2804 KNO 2 4 3 +K 2 SO 4 KNO +HC1 3 + KC1+ K 2 S0 4 and Li Cl +BaCl; has been studied and the coagulation velocity curves for each pair obtained.2. Ionic antagonism is observed with KC1 +HCl, KNO3+ HC11 K2SO4 HC1 and LiCI 4-BaO12.3. The ionic antagonism is explained on the basis of the adsorption or the similarly charged ion.4. It is shown that Weiser's view of ionic antagonism is both theoretically and experimentally unsound.5. The view of FreAndli ch that ionic antagonism is a characteristic of hydropiillic sols is shown to be incorrect in as much as any sol can be made to show this phenomenon under suitable conditions like the Th02 hydrosol.6. Abnormality to the dilution rule, deviation from the Schulze -Hardy law and ionic antagonism are due to adsorption of the similarly charged ion.
