Due to the global warming, summertime heatwaves have become more common in Finland. Because the Finnish apartments are not always designed for hot weather conditions, also the indoor air temperatures can rise uncomfortably high. Especially newer apartments tend to be well insulated to reduce energy consumption during heating seasons. High indoor temperatures can be a significant risk to elderly people and people with chronic diseases. It has been reported in multiple studies that heatwaves increase mortality within elderly people.
