Key summary pointsAim To evaluate the prognostic value of a shortened screening instrument based on the Dutch national Safety Management System [Veiligheidsmanagementsysteem(VMS)] guidelines for older emergency department patients. Findings A high VMS-score is associated with elevated risks of hospitalization and 90-day mortality. A prediction model for 90-day mortality, which incorporated the VMS-score, showed promising results.
