MAKNA PESAN NONVERBAL DALAM TRADISI MANTEN KUCING DESA PELEM KAB. TULUNGAGUNG (Analisis Semiotika Roland Barthes pada Tanda-Tanda Nonverbal dalam Tradisi Manten Kucing)

This research departs from the phenomenon of the ritual tradition of Manten Kucing in Pelem Village, Campurdarat District, Tulungagung Regency. What are interesting are the nonverbal signs that appear in the tradition. Therefore, this study aims to reveal the meaning of nonverbal messages in the tradition of Manten Kucing in Pelem Village, Campurdarat District, Tulungagung Regency. To fulfill these objectives, this study uses an interpretive paradigm design with Roland Barthes' semiotic method which consists of the dimensions of denotation, connotation, and myth. The results show that the meaning of nonverbal messages can be known through the flow sequences of 'Temu Manten', 'Kirab Manten', and 'Bathing Cats' in the Manten Kucing ritual. The meaning contained in the denotative and connotative dimensions leads to the expression of Javanese cultural identity in the Manten Kucing ritual to the people who witness it, then in the mythical dimension, it appears in the sequence 'Pemandian Kucing' which is the core procession of the Manten Kucing ritual
