Literature Review of Transformational Servant Style of Leadership: Foundation of Rajarshi Model of Leadership

A number of leadership theories have been emanated from the development of social science. Applicability of these theories has been with context and time. During the last five decades, transformational style of leadership and servant style leadership have been important subjects of organizational research. The purpose of this research paper is to make a comparative analysis of transformational and servant styles of leadership based upon the review of the literature and discuss the common principles, features, characteristics, and concepts, and also discuss fundamental differences between these two leadership styles.While reviewing the impact of the number of characteristics observed, and principles formulated, it is observed that the transformational and servant style of leadership are complementary to each other. No leader can fully follow the principle of transformational or servant leadership but leaders who followed the right mixed principles of these styles brought the revolution in the society. These mixed styles of leadership can be termed as ‘Rajarshi’ model of leadership available in Indian scriptures where the leader works as a transformational leader, but lives like a saint and dedicate himself for welfare and growth of the followers’ and development of the State.
