Rectal prolapse is a common and distressing condition in which the rectum either protrudes externally or telescopes insides itself (intussceception) resulting in evacuatory dysfunction. It has traditionally been viewed as being a disorder of multiparous women who sustain pelvic floor injury during childbirth.
