Caring is one of the most important concepts in nursing. However, there are also some criticisms towards caring in nursing. Thus, in this study, we examined the theory of caring in nursing proposed by Kuhse, a typical researcher who had criticisms towards caring in nursing, and compared that theory with the theory of caring proposed by Noddings. The results showed that although Kuhse’s theory admitted that caring was an important element in nursing, he pointed out the danger in forming too close of a relationship because it may lead to a decline in fairness and there may be risks of arbitration.
