Novos desafios epistemológicos para a ciência da informação

This text discusses elements and characteristics of contemporary informational reality, that is, the ways of producing, circulating, organizing, using and appropriating information, in the current context. Initially, there is a problematization of seven terms and concepts used to describe this reality: fake news, false testimonial, hate speech, scientific denialism, disinformation, infodemia and post-truth. Next, we seek to present a framework for such phenomena as an object of study of information science. For that, this scenario is characterized from the three main models of study of information science: the physical, the cognitive and the social. The contribution of each of them to the study of contemporary informational reality is analyzed, identifying aspects such as the bubble effect, the clickbaits, the confirmation bias, the cult of amateurism and the culture of the post-truth. Finally, the discussion of a possible veritistic turn in the field is presented, in order to think about elements not considered until now by the information science in its task and challenge to produce adequate understandings and diagnoses of the current phenomena. In conclusion, it is argued that only accurate and comprehensive diagnoses of such phenomena will allow information science to develop services and systems capable of combating their harmful effects.Neste texto são discutidos elementos e caracterí­sticas da realidade informacional contemporãnea, isto é, dos modos de se produzir, fazer circular, organizar, usar e se apropriar da informação, no contexto atual. Inicialmente, realiza-se uma problematização de sete termos e conceitos usados para descrever essa realidade: fake news, testemunhal falso, discurso de ódio, negacionismo cientí­fico, desinformação, infodemia e pós-verdade. A seguir, busca-se apresentar um enquadramento de tais fenômenos enquanto um objeto de estudo da ciência da informação. Para tanto, tal cenário é caracterizado a partir dos três principais modelos de estudo da ciência da informação: o fí­sico, o cognitivo e o social. Analisa-se a contribuição de cada um deles para o estudo da realidade informacional contemporãnea, identificando aspectos como o efeito bolha, os clickbaits, o viés de confirmação, o culto do amadorismo e a cultura da pós-verdade. Por fim, apresenta-se a discussão de uma possí­vel virada verití­stica no campo, de forma a se pensar em elementos não contemplados até aqui pela ciência da informação em sua tarefa e desafio de produzir adequadas compreensões e diagnósticos dos fenômenos atuais. Como conclusão, defende-se que apenas diagnósticos precisos e abrangentes de tais fenômenos permitirá í ciência da informação desenvolver serviços e sistemas capazes de combater seus efeitos nocivos
