Background: Efficient drug delivery across the blood-brain barriers (BBB) is a central problem in pharmaceutical treatment of neurological diseases. Most pharmaceutical drug candidates including hydrophilic molecules, biopharmaceuticals, and efflux transporter ligands have a low permeability across barriers.
