The paper aims to present the main socio-economic features of the minorities in Hungary, and briefly review the nature and reasons behind the adoption of the 1993 minority law on the country’s non-territorial autonomy, while the third and fourth parts of the case study take the analysis further by seeking to analyse the relevant political efforts and debates as well as the main elements and changes of the institutional arrangements from the adoption of the law
