In many industrial processes a set of machines is served by a number of operatives. From time to time a machine breaks down and the operative repairs and restart. If the number of machine which stop exceeds the number of operatives, then some of these machines are forced to wait for repair and machine interference occurs. During the fifties and sixties, a number of empirical and semi-empirical interference formulae for the evaluation of diminished productivity have been suggested.
