A obra do pintor Adriano de Sousa Lopes (1879-1944) na sua fase académica: Conservação e Restauro de diversas pinturas da Reserva de Pintura da FBAUL

A study of a set of ten academic works by Adriano de Sousa Lopes (1879-1944) that belongs to the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon (FBAUL) was started as part of a PhD research, specializing in Art Sciences.The project consisted in the study of the painter's artistic period and the conservation and restoration treatments of Sousa Lopes's academic paintings. An intervention methodology was made in four phases - Historical Study, Mapping with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Technical Study and Conservation and Restoration - which was supported by several researchers and research centers (CIEBA, HERCULES, CITAR, CFUM). If, on the one hand, a scientific and historical research was developed then, on the other hand at the same time conservation and restoration treatments were carried out, which allowed preserving a unique collection. The diagnosis, through the use of techniques of graphic registration and examination and analysis, allowed to know the materials constituting the works and to identify the causes of deterioration associated to them. The information system used, QGIS®, allowed the creation of several maps of the surfaces that facilitated the reading and interpretation of the pictorial data, both the technical and conservative survey, as well as the conservation and restoration treatments performed. The conservation and restoration intervention were guided by the minimum intervention, the main objective being the structural stabilization of the paintings. The exhibition and the catalogue were the culmination of an exhaustive and rigorous investigation into a little studied phase of the painter, where in addition to highlighting his work, it also emphasizes the role of conservation and restoration in the preservation of collections such as this. Finally, the implementation of several methodologies allowed achieve an investigation in several domains of knowledge, which was only possible through multidisciplinary work
