SPELAR DISTANS ROLL? : En kvalitativ studie om distansarbete under Covid-19

In a world affected by Covid-19, the definition of remote work has changed. This study is using a framework by Olson and Olson (2000) and trying to see if it can be complemented by the concept of Digital Work to better understand remote work of today. Using qualitative methods in looking at the case of Volvo Group Recruitment and interviewing recruiters and managers from four different countries to understand how they view the transition to remote and digital work. Looking at our specific context, the results suggest that Common ground, Collaboration readiness, and Organizational management are still important aspects to consider when trying to understand remote work. Nature of work and Collaboration technology, although still having some important arguments to them, contribute less in comparison to the added concept of Digital Work when trying to understand the phenomenon. Digital technologies are what allow remote work to continue, and Digital work is therefore an important lens through which to understand how this new digital and remote way of working is holding up. Combining this Olson and Olson (2000) framework and Digital Work gives us a way to understand what is important when considering the future of work. Whether it is digital or remote or both, we cannot say for certain, but from the results of this study, and what our interviewees are saying, they have gotten far enough in above categories to consider flexible work a possibility in the future. Reviewing the results of this study we suggest adding the concept of Digital work for future studies of the same phenomenon.
