Background: Simple, accurate, continuous non-invasive cardiac monitoring during the peri- and postoperative periods for patients at risk of cardiac failure would be very useful. Electrical impedance cardiography (EIC) has been proposed as an accurate method for non-invasive measurement of cardiac function.
