Cynisca, the sister of Agesilaus II, king of Sparta, obtained two Olympie victories at the fourhorse chariot race in 396 and 392. Xenophon (Agesilaus 9.6-7), followed by Plutarch (Life of Agesilaus 20.1), states that the king persuaded his sister to take part at the Olympie Garnes in order to show the true reasons of such victories, linked to money rather than to bravery.
