Abstract.– What does Ovid show when, at the end of Book IX of Metamorphoses, he narrates the story of the transformation of young Iphis through a long poem, the aim of which is to tell the transformation of forms into new bodies, ever since the origins ? In an approach pertaining to philology, anthropology and gender studies, our study will deal with a story that for a long time has been interpreted as a simple metamorphosis of sex. By comparing it to the legend of Leukippos (Antoninus Liberalis, Metamorphoses, xvii) and by paying particular attention to the long monologue – one of the longest in ancient texts devoted to love between two women – we will be able to understand the importance of some details disclosed by the poet on the femini...
