The archaeological and anthropological study of cremation tombs of Prehistoric and Roman times raises several searching questions dealing particularly with the position of the corpse on the pyre, the process of its combustion, the actions that succeed the cremation, such as the collecting of the fragmented burned bones, etc. The author has tried to answer these questions through an ethnoarchaeological approach : he undertook a precise study of numerous and various cremations in India and in Nepal.
