La crémation sur bûcher dans l’Antiquité à la lumière de l’ethnoarchéologie

The archaeological and anthropological study of cremation tombs of Prehistoric and Roman times raises several searching questions dealing particularly with the position of the corpse on the pyre, the process of its combustion, the actions that succeed the cremation, such as the collecting of the fragmented burned bones, etc. The author has tried to answer these questions through an ethnoarchaeological approach : he undertook a precise study of numerous and various cremations in India and in Nepal. He has already obtained some satisfactory answers that open a way to further research.L’étude archéologique et anthropologique des tombes à crémation de la Préhistoire et de l’Antiquité suscite des questions prégnantes ; elles ont trait à la position du corps sur le bûcher, au processus de sa combustion, aux actes qui suivent la crémation, tels que le collectage des fragments d’os brûlés, etc. Pour tenter de répondre à ces questions, l’auteur a entrepris une démarche ethnoarchéologique : l’étude précise des nombreux et divers processus de crémation en Inde et au Népal ; il en décrit ici des exemples caractéristiques.
