Les prochaines missions spatiales, prévues à haute sensibilité, apporteront un progrès si et seulement si les paramètres spectraux nécessaires sont disponibles. Pour certaines espèces d’intérêt atmosphérique telles que le chlorure de nitryle (ClNO₂), le phosgène (Cl₂CO) et le nitrate de chlore (ClONO₂), les données spectroscopiques sont incomplètes ou quasiment inexistantes.
