Influence of wood ash on concrete properties

Betono pramonėje yra sunaudojami dideli energijos kiekiai žaliavų gamyboje ir transportavimui. Nuo senų laikų betono savybes yra bandoma tobulinti, padaryti jį ekonomiškesniu, ekologiškesniu ar siekiama pagerinti jo savybes. Biomasės katilinėse deginant medienos atliekas vidutiniškai susidaro nuo 6 iki 10 procentų pelenų nuo sudegusios medienos svorio. Susidariusių pelenų kompostavimas priklauso nuo geografinės padėties ir pramoninių procesų. Labiausiai paplitęs tokios atliekos tvarkymo būdas yra išvežimas į artimiausią sąvartyną, todėl reikia spręsti kaip būtų galima panaudoti šias susidarančias atliekas (Chowdhury 2014). Vienas iš sprendimo būdų, sudegusios medienos pelenus panaudoti statybos pramonėje. Kadangi prognozuojama, kad biomasės katilinių daugės, taip pat daugės ir atliekų. Ieškant būdų kaip panaudoti susidarančias atliekas buvo atlikti tyrimai, kaip sudegusios medienos pelenai įtakoja betono savybes. Tyrimams buvo panaudoti Telšiuose veikiančioje biomasės katilinėje susidarantys pelenai. Ši medžiaga buvo naudojama kaip dalinis pakaitalas cementui. Tyrimų metu buvo nustatytas betono mišinio tankis, betono mišinio slankumas, sukietėjusio betono vandens įgeriamumas, stipris gniuždant ir betono atsparumo šalčiui skaičiavimai. Apžvelgiant gautus rezultatus pastebima, kad biomasės medžio pelenų kiekis priklausomai nuo naudoto kiekio mažino betono mišinio slankumą arba išlaikė jį nepakitusį, mažino sukietėjusio betono stiprį gniuždant ir didino vandens įgeriamumą. Su mažesniu biomasės medžio pelenų kiekiu betono klasė nuo C25/30 sumažėjo iki C20/25, o naudojant didesnį kiekį – iki C16/20.The concrete industry consumes large amounts of energy in the production and transportation of raw materials. Since ancient times, there have been attempts to improve the properties of concrete, to make it more economical, more environmentally friendly or to improve its properties. Biomass wood waste burning generates on average 6 to 10 percent ash from the weight of burned wood. The composting of the resulting ash depends on the geographical location and industrial processes. The most common way of handling such waste is to take it to the nearest landfill, so it is necessary to decide how this waste can be used. One solution is to use burnt wood ash in the construction industry. As biomass boilers houses are projected to increase, so will waste. Research has been carried out into the effects of burnt wood ash on concrete properties in search of ways to use the waste that is generated. The ash generated in the biomass boiler house in Telšiai was used for the research. This material was used as a partial replacement for cement. The density of the concrete mix, the slipperiness of the concrete mix, the water absorption of the hardened concrete, the compressive strength and calculations of concrete frost resistance were determined during the research. Looking at the results, it can be seen that the amount of wood ash, depending on the amount used, reduced the slip of the concrete mix or kept it unchanged, reduced the compressive strength of the hardened concrete and increased the water absorption.
