Bishop Antanas Karosas: a pilgrimage of trouble

Thus, the hierarchical structure in the Church is natural and irrevocable. Usually, the actual head of each diocese is a bishop appointed by the Pope. The story of the Catholic Church in Lithuania presents many prominent pastors who have been extremely important for the awareness of the nation faith, and often for national identity. One of such pastors was Antanas Karosas, the bishop of Seinai and later of Vilkaviškis. It is unfortunate, but he is not given enough attention in the field of historical studies. One of the problems that researchers face is the lack of resources. There is no personal file of the bishop in either Seinai or Vilkaviškis. And overall, important documents did not survive neither in Lithuanian curiae, nor in the state archives. Some documents can be found in the state archives in St. Petersburg (Russia).
