The June 2013 stream flood in the central Pyrenees showed a strong reactivity of torrential catchments to an extreme hydrological event and had a significant impact on both natural and social systems. This stream flood follows a period of hydrological calm during the second half of the 20th century. It is similar in its grip and intensity to the great historical floods of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a period of strong hydro-dynamics at the end of the Little Ice Age. However, it occurs in a very different socio-economic, socio-biological and climatic context, in a poorly studied massif.
