Artistic Topics and Themes. Studies from History and Sociology of Art Borderland

This text dedicated to memory of Professor Sław KrzemieńOjak has theoretical and empirical character. First part Sociology of (pieces of) art present theoretical frames of discipline, based on concepts of Pierre Francastel. The second one – Duda-Gracz versus Chełmoński presents empirical studies linking the “sociology of painting”, “sociology of topics” and “sociology of reception”. Text concerns the common reception of two pictures made by Jerzy Duda-Gracz entitled Apocalypse Riders or Bungled Work and To Joseph Chełmoński; both are new versions of compositions realized by the famous polish painter from the XIX century. Conclusions Sociological study of reception of painting by Jerzy Duda-Gracz proved, that polyvalent sociology of art crossgenre is sociology tout court, so just sociology.Anna Matuchniak-Krasuska, profesor socjologii, kierownik Katedry Socjologii Sztuki i Edukacji Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, zajmuje się socjologią kultury i sztuki, socjologią francuską, socjologią historyczną, ruchami społecznymi, instytucjami kultury i publicznością.
