La neumopatía por humo de leña, una entidad que produce compromiso de la vía aérea a través de mecanismos aún no determinados claramente, se manifiesta como una obstrucción crónica al flujo de aire y en ocasiones como compromiso restrictivo pulmonar. Se han realizado varios estudios que determinan el impacto que el uso de estos combustibles tiene en la salud de las personas expuestas, pero lo que pasa con el resto de la población que estando expuesta no desarrolla la enfermedad no ha sido estudiado.
