La influencia del tipo de aceite esencial (romero y/o tomillo), su contenido y el tratamiento de homogeneización, ha sido objeto de varios estudios, observando que varían las propiedades físicas de las películas de quitosano y otros tipos de dispersiones comestibles que el quitosano forma. Las propiedades características de las películas de quitosano varían en resistencia, grosor, apariencia y aspectos organolépticos y se observo que hay una relación directa entre la concentración de aceite esencial y de quitosano que presente la película. Películas compuestas de aceites esenciales fueron más suaves, menos rígidas y más elásticas que las películas puras de quitosano.
