Moniliophthora perniciosa, agente causante de la ‘escoba de bruja’ en cacao (Theobroma cacao), presenta una elevada variabilidad genética y discrepancias en su taxonomía y es una de las enfermedades más importantes en plantaciones cacaoteras que ocasiona pérdidas económicas a nivel mundial cercanas a 70%, y de 40% a nivel nacional.
