Comparison of the spiratory forced volume in one second (FEV1) and forced vital capacity (FVC) among smoking and not smoking asymptomatic volunteers in an health institution of Bogotá - 2010

El tabaquismo usualmente no es una elección del adulto; es una adicción, que en realidad, a la edad adulta, es muy difícil de abandonar. La gran mayoría de los fumadores comienzan a hacerlo en la niñez o en la adolescencia, cuando aún no conocen o entienden plenamente los riesgos del uso del tabaco o las propiedades adictivas de la nicotina. Gran cantidad de médicos y personal de salud y administrativo, emplea la espirometría simple como método de tamizaje para lesión pulmonar en personas con hábito de fumar, lo cual no ha demostrado ser realmente de utilidad. El presente estudio busca la existencia o no de diferencias en los valores de CVF y VEF1 entre voluntarios sanos de acuerdo al estado de no fumador y fumador activo o pasivo. Se propuso un estudio descriptivo, prospectivo, de prevalencia de hallazgos anormales espirométricos en pacientes jóvenes asintomáticos, a partir de datos obtenidos de espirometrías simples realizadas a personas asintomáticas con indicación del estudio diferente a sospecha de enfermedad respiratoria, en un hospital de tercer nivel de la ciudad de Bogotá en el periodo comprendido entre febrero y marzo de 2010. Resultados: no se encontraron diferencias significativas en los valores espirométricos de CVF y VEF1 entre las personas jóvenes asintomáticas de acuerdo al estado de no fumador o fumador activo y pasivo. Conclusión: el presente estudio no demuestra diferencias significativas en los valores de VEF1 y CVF en personas asintomáticas de acuerdo al estado de fumador o no; al igual que no se demostró la presencia de trastornos obstructivos en las personas fumadoras pasivas o activas asintomáticas. / Abstract. Smoking is not an adult's election; it is an addiction that in fact, to the mature age, it is very difficult of abandoning. The great majority of the smokers begins to make it in the childhood or in the adolescence, when they don't still know or they understand the risks of the use of the tobacco or the addictive properties of the nicotine fully. Many doctors and personal of health and administrative, uses the spirometry as a screening method for lung damage in people with habit of smoking, that which has not demonstrated to really be of utility. The present study looks for the existence or not of differences in the values of CVF and VEF1 among healthy volunteers according to non smoker's state and active or passive smoker. This is a descriptive, prospective, prevalence study of abnormal values in spirometry in asymptomatic young patients, starting from obtained data of spirometry carried out asymptomatic people with indication of the study different to suspicion of breathing illness, in a hospital of third level of Bogotá in the period between February and March of 2010. Results: There were not significant differences in the spirometry values of FVC and FEV1 among asymptomatic young people according to non smoker's state or smoking assets and liabilities. Conclusion: The present study does not demonstrate differences in the values of FEV1 and FVC in asymptomatic people according to the state of smoking or not; the same as the presence of obstructive dysfunctions was not demonstrated in asymptomatic passive or active smoking people.Otr
