En Colombia se documentaron ataques severos de este grupo de insectos en diferentes regiones productoras. A pesar de los avances en el conocimiento taxonómico de este grupo, es necesario generar más información básica para conocer la biodiversidad y generar planes de manejo integrado. La presente investigación estudia la identidad taxonómica de las especies asociadas a raíces de café, Coffea spp. (Rubiaceae). En el primer capítulo se hace un inventario de las especies asociadas a raíces de café en el país, con base en muestreos en campo, revisión en colecciones entomológicas y registros de literatura científica; se proveen nuevos registros de especies, distribución y hospedantes para el país y la ciencia. A partir de caracteres morfológicos microscópicos de hembras adultas, en el segundo capítulo se proporciona una clave dicotómica ilustrada para las especies halladas. En el capítulo tres se proponen cuatro nuevas especies con base en atributos morfológicos de hembras adultas. In Colombia, severe attacks of this group of insects have been documented in different coffee producing regions. In spite of the advances hitherto reached on the taxonomic knowledge of this group, it is necessary to generate more basic information in order to understand the biodiversity and generate integrated management plans. The present investigation was carried out to study the taxonomic identity of the species associated with coffee roots, Coffea spp. (Rubiaceae). In the first chapter, an inventory of scale insect species associated with coffee roots in the country was compiled based on field sampling, by studying entomological collections and records of the scientific literature; new records of species, distribution and host plants for the country and the world are provided. In the second chapter, an illustrated dichotomous key for the species found on Coffee in Colombia is provided, based on the microscopic morphological characters of the adult females.
