International audienceThe separation between “language and thought” and “communication and action” is thought to make the two effectively independent, with the occasional opportunity for crossover and overlap. This intertwining does not cancel out any subsequent resemiotization and recoding of the action, as it provides the operational foundation of such processes. Action is always articulated by signifying materialities and normative structures that institutionalize it, mediatize it, and give it meaning.
