International audienceOne of the most important causes that lead to fault in the case of induction motors is rotor eccentricity. The rotor eccentricity causes an unbalanced magnetic pull that leads to an increase in the noise level of the machine and a shorter lifespan of the motor through excessive wear and tear of the components. In this paper, a finite element method (FEM) has been used to investigate different eccentricity fault levels, in terms of the amplitude and frequency spectrum analysis of the magnetic forces generated. Experimental results of a 0.75 kW, 1500 rpm, capacitor run single phase squirrel cage induction motor verify the FEM results and the influence of eccentricity on the noise level of the machine
