In this brief, we investigate the turbulent condensation of a population of droplets by means of a direct numerical simulation. To that end, a coupled Navier-Stokes/Lagrangian solver is used where each particle is tracked and its growth by water vapor condensation is monitored exactly. The main goals of the study are to find out whether turbulence broadens the droplet size distribution, as observed in in situ measurements. The second issue is to understand if and for how long a correlation between the droplet radius and the local supersaturation exists for the purpose of modeling sub-grid scale microphysics in cloud-resolving codes.
