We investigated temporal properties of stereopsis at different spatial scales in dynamic random-dot stereograms (DRS) consisting of (i) the repeated presentation of two image pairs (i.e. sustained presentation) and (ii) single presentations of two image pairs (transient presentation). In dense stereograms perception of depth is possible if the levels of interocular correlation are above a certain threshold. Therefore, detection of correlation is an important step in stereopsis.
