Weight gain has been cited by women as one of the main reasons for discontinuation of the contraceptive depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA). This study aimed to evaluate binge eating and the biochemical markers of appetite in new DMPA users. In this prospective non randomized study with adult healthy women, twenty-eight users of DMPA and twenty-five users of a copper intrauterine device (IUD) were paired for age (±1 year) and body mass index (BMI) (±1 kg/m2).
