金沢大学人間社会研究域人間科学系X-ray stress measurement of a composite material using a diffraction ring detected by a two dimensional detector was studied. The merit of the method is the reduction of time required for the X-ray measurement. A theoretical background of the method for determining phase stresses, macro- and microstresses from one diffraction ring was given in the first section of the paper. An experiment on the applicability of the method to a damaged layer of ferritic and austenitic dualphase stainless steel after grinding was also described. The depth profiles of residual macro- and microstresses were obtained from phase stresses.
