The history of three directions of the study of the genus Salvia L in the flora of Uzbekistan is represented in the article for the first time. The first direction is the description of Salvia species of the flora of Uzbekistan for science (1879-1984); the second direction is geobotanical and floristic research (1961-2019); the third direction is the study of the species from the point of view of economic value (1964-2020). The paper contains a description of specifics of each of the three directions, a brief analysis of performed research, and the issues that must be studied in the future
