A small satellite can be adversely affected by Earth’s magnetic field due to the resulting torque the magnetic field exerts on the satellites magnetic dipole moment. Therefore, this dipole moment needs to be estimated during the development of the satellite to make sure that the torque does not become a problem once the satellite is in orbit. This needs to be done for the MIniture STudent satellite (MIST), built at KTH Royal Institute of Technology.
